Ucalgary Language Research Centre: Harry Potter Editions

So the Language Research Centre at my university is doing this thing where they gather all these different editions of Harry Potter in almost 70 languages. The books are on display in the language lab, and audio samples are posted on the website. Guess whose Russian professor is reading the Russian edition?

wideawakeatmidnight: I get panhandled a lot when I’m downtown. For whatever reason, people feel safe asking me for money, and they usually get it. It doesn’t hurt me any to dig some change out of my pocket and if it really is going to buy them food or a way home, then there’s my good deed for the day. I rarely know if that’s how it plays out, but I can hope. This guy had just asked for change to buy a burger and showed me a small handful of silver coins, not nearly enough to buy anything resembling food. “Like 40 cents?” he asked. I gave him a $5 and he headed off toward McDonald’s. Good enough, I guess.
